dream shop

A bit more about it and some images of work in progress.

Who?
Rhiannon Gilmore (nee Silver) is a UK based artist concerned with the space between things - things that relate to each other in some way.
She explores this concern through making, curation and blogging. She is the creator and author of the image blog Intelligent Clashing and exhibits internationally.

What?
Dream Shop
In response to Rolu's request to contribute something to Attention as Place Rhiannon Gilmore wrote:
"What I really want is my own shop. Will you make me one?
If we really are wherever our attention is then I'm in my shop and it's stocked with things made by all the amazing people I've met online.
It would somehow feel right if my shop existed too far away for me to visit - just like it does now (being only in thought) it would be mine and never mine.
If you build it, I'll stock it."The shop acts not only as a sculptural realisation of Gilmore's desires but behaves as a snap-shot of a current community of artists/makers/designers who operate and communicate online.

happy days, titled by A

Hello there,
we are having a mini heat wave in England too, hope it'll last until the end of August, cheeky me! we are going on camping holidays soon and I wouldn't like to experience a flood again! :-)
It's been months since I don't see a sky so clear!

I've been baking scones, crazy I know! (un)following a recipe from here, I mean I changed a bit, I used half spelt flour and half  wholemeal flour and instead of double cream I used buttermilk, I added raisins, but currants are good too.

To brighten my day even more snail mail from Ana arrived today! I love the care she takes in every little details, she sent me one of her cute shopping bags and fridge magnets. Watch her space: she'll be opening her on-line shop soon. Thank you Ana!

Another thing I wanted to tell you about is that few of my socks went all the way to Minneapolis for a residency by ROLU at the Walker Art Center, my socks will be part of Rhiannon " Dream Shop"...
I'm quite chuffed!

Enjoy the beautiful weather.

glimpses

Every three or four days of heavy rains we see a glimpse of sun.

And on that rare occasion I run in the garden to take a pic
of the white lavender plants.
I have three of them one type is called "Arctic snow" and the
other one is called "Pretty Polly", they smell like lavender
but with a accent of mint. I bought mine during a trip to
Norfolk, you can easily find them in any Lavender catalogue.
A couple of days ago I had a little party with my girlfriends,
it was supposed to be a garden party instead we stayed in because it was raining buckets! (and still is)
I made some "tapas" following some recipes from Moro cookbooks
and non alcoholic fruit cocktail, it was nice.

small changes

I defied the rules of renting by pasting wallpaper on the wall.
Or rather I decided life is too short to live with cream walls.
Blame the weather, I couldn't resist (it's called "Cow Parsley"
and it's by London based wallpaper makers Cole&Son) quite bold, but uplifting.
I tried to take some pics but they are fuzzy,
the light is quite bad, I wanted to show it to you anyway.
The de-cluttering is still going, I'm tackling the mountains of wool I have.

Few people asked about the white lavender
I will post more as soon as the rain stop with the links.

de-cluttering

Before the holidays it's time to de-clutter!
I've been de-cluttering a lot lately, starting from the living room.
Painted the walls white (all of them finally) moving things around,
giving things away. It's incredible how much you can accumulate
in six months or so. In the process I learn to detach from stuff,
to choose wisely every thing I bring into the home, to think twice
"do I really want/need/like this?".
The more I do it, the easiest it becomes.
The hardest part was to begin it.

In the garden some berries I planted, a mix between
black and raspberries, I forgot the name, loganberries perhaps?
White lavender.

Have a nice week.

garden, Kinfolk and quilt

Hi there,
I just received Kinfolk vol 4, reading it is such a beautiful way to relax!
It's already in my shop for pre-orders.
This year I didn't dare to grow any veggies,
the weather is so unpredictable, but I have
few herbs which are doing nicely. I bought
few scented plants too, like pink carnations
(the plant looks wonky but the smell is amazing)
and curry plant. I'd like to make a corner of
scented plants, we bought a cheap and cheerful
swing bench which I hope with new fabric will look
not cheap and cheerful anymore,
I will put the scented plants nearby.
I also have a shady corner, any hints of which
plants do their best in a walled sad corner?
The quilt is an antique find, made out of cuttings
from old wool suits and coats, it's all hand stitched
and I have no idea who, when and why did it!

on weather again and nonsense

Let me tell you the weather here is dreadful, I feel quite edgy because of it!
Oh summer where are thou? Not in UK for sure! ;^)

Cocon  jade branch on my wall.
Necklace from Eddy and Edwina.
A 1930's silk duvet found last week in an antique market, will be in the shop soon, alongside few pink items.

Anita's clothes (she's wearing today).
I'm glad I still manage to dress her in a way
I like because she let me do so, she likes my style, she said.
But I want to tell you about how difficult is to live in a place
where people judge you because you do things in a different way.
I struggle to understand what is wrong to cook from scratch,
to buy from smaller independent supermarkets or in the market,
to dress my daughter in nice comfy clothes rather than acrylic stuff,
to try to control the quantity of junk food she otherwise would eat
because everybody do so, to watch out the amount of time she
waste in front of the tv and computer games, to battle day in day
out on why she doesn't own a wii, or a whatever device to play games
like -apparently- all her class mates and friends (what's wrong with a
computer? is not enough?), on why she should be judge as a different
kid only because after school she's engaged in things such learning to
play an instrument, play some sports and so on.
A couple of weeks ago I put in her lunch box home made cookies and
guess what? she came home and she said to me: "mum, your biscuits
are really good but I don't want to bring them to school any more".
Why? Because she was told they were disgusting and your mum should
buy biscuits from the supermarket like every normal person, as industrial
cookies are far better than home made ones. Not to mention that a
friend of hers came to play one day and told me that my cupcakes
were poo-cakes! But mind you, her mum one day said to me that I
was crazy to make "cakes" with spinach (an Italian version of a quiche)
and outrageous to offer it to kids! :D
OK, it's official: we are from Mars!

I know I'm a bit behind but I decided to play along
after I read this post at Fine Little Day's.
So hello, good Monday and this is me half an hour

brows and a tired face already! D took
the pic, usually I don't allow him to snap portraits
of myself because he never get it right!
