16.1.12

today

Good Monday,
I must say that we've been through a hell of a week.
Sometimes, I guess, you have to yield to what invests
you and wait until the storm pass, but not in a passive way!
In my native town, in the old quarters, there's a square where
a battle took place and there's a building with a door with a
tablet on top of it that says :«Frangar non flectar»
(I break but I don't yield).
That's a say used by the Genovese people during the battle
against Pisa (one of the four Sea Republics in Medieval and
Renaissance times in Italy) meaning that the Genovese have
rather died than been besieged by the Pisans. I don't know
why I'm telling this story here but I feel like to start the week
with this story.

HAVE A GOOD DAY!

I have always considered myself half Milanese half Ligurian because I have spent all my weekends there until I was 26...and my grandmother still lives there.
This week must be better, and it will be.

Wish I could have written that I know how you feel, but that ever seems like an easy way out. Battles, on the other hand. Battles, I know. And so, I know it's hard and sometimes impossible to avoid (and 'sometimes' can be every minute of every day).

Your wisdom will pull you through, and you will be ok, again. I find the 'Frangar non flectar' very appealing, we should all be carrying a small sign with those words. Your words also made me think of Nietzsche and the quote from 'Zarathustra': 'One must still have chaos in oneself, to give birth to a dancing star.'

I see you dancing, like noone else I know.

Love,
Lilli

Corragio Alessandra... wise words you once told me in my own troubled times. And you know what? I remember and appreciated it - your timing was perfect. So hold tight my dear, it will pass. Will be thinking of you...

I am glad you told the story of the Genovese because it confirms how strong and resilient Italians are. More stories, anytime. baci-baci
